Using Modeling to Support Constructing Explanations
with presenter Cindy Wilbur
on December 4th, 4-6 pm
at Irving Robbin Middle School
20 Wolf Pit Road, Farmington, CT 06032
Developing and using models and constructing explanations are two of the Science and Engineering Practices of the new Next Generation Science Standards. However, the practices have value for any discipline that integrates writing explanations of concepts. Participants will experience an abridged version of an instructional sequence that middle school science teachers developed to embed visual models, collaborative critique, and revisions of models before individual students write explanations. Sample models in other contents area will also be shared along with time for participants to brainstorm ideas to apply to their own curriculum.
Refreshments will be provided.
